"Bar Chaplains Will Offer Hope"

This item was published last Friday by the AG-News service.

An excerpt: Pastor Chuck Kish is looking forward to the day when members of his church will be bar regulars. Beginning February 1, chaplains commissioned by Bethel Assembly in Carlisle, Pennsylvania, will minister to patrons at a local bar.

What do you think? You can be anonymous if you wish, but you must be kind.

I think Pastor Kish is hearing from God. It sounds like he has exercised sufficient caution and will keep a close eye on the development of this ministry.
With many emerging churches locating in pubs and cafes and showing some success, especially overseas, this is a risk worth taking.
One alternative is to wait at church and hope these folks somehow show up for service ... unlikely. Another option is to keep doing what we're doing and hope things get better.
Go for it brother.

As a minister in the marketplace this is edgey. It has the possibility of producing fruit, but depending on the location expect backlash. Men go to the bars not necessarily to drink themselves away, but to retreat from high stress stuff. This is their holy ground.

It's Gone National thanks to the AP! It has been covered by all national news groups.

Okay, so Chuck Kish and Bethel Assembly are entered as the first nominee for the Penn-Del national news story of 2008.

This is getting more coverage than last year's winner, Gerry Stoltzfoos of ABC News Nightline fame.:)

So, who's going to top Chuck?:)

Doug Sayers?
